Before you begin reading through the brochure, we thought it best to describe some of the current trends which are happening right now within the petroleum retail industry and some of the hurdles that retailers appear to be facing regarding EPOS.

Current Trends

Many fuel forecourt stations are starting to transform into a multi-faceted retail, fuel and hospitality facility as many petroleum retailers realise the income benefits they can achieve from meeting increasing consumer demands for convenience, including; coffee, food-to-go, groceries and other retail offerings. The limitation on achieving the potential from this burgeoning sector often appears to be the mismatch of their current technology with many existing EPOS software solutions not having the functionality needed for all of the retailing sectors required.

This often means multisector, multisite retailers face a range of issues including major staff training headaches, lack of staff portability, complex head office interfaces with different attributes and methods, significant cost increases, multiple and varied support arrangements and quite often inconsistent reporting. All of which can result in not having a 360° view of where the retail business is heading. This often arises because the POS (Point-of-Sale), BOS (Back-office Software) and HOS (Head-office Software) components of the solution may not come from the same stable, meaning high cost for software upgrades, incompatibilities and policy issues across the component EPOS vendors.
